Inner
Circle, Theater 150 Announce Co-Production of Eurydice.
Orpheus
was the greatest musician, Eurydice was his wife. Eurydice dies on the day of
their wedding, and Orpheus descends into the underworld to find her. He
convinces Hades, Lord of The Underworld, to return his bride, but at the
crucial moment he looks back and she is lost forever.
Much
has been written of the Orpheus myth ever since Ovid first copied it down
around the time of Christ. However, in 2000 years of literary history, almost
nothing is said about his bride. Sarah Ruhl’s touching adaptation is more
concerned with Eurydice’s point of view, as is evidenced by the title of the
play. Who is this Eurydice? Why is she silent? What is her side of the
story?
Elizabeth
Rosengren, former artistic director of Theater 150, delights us in the title
role while the play is deftly staged by award winning director Elli Resvanis.
Support comes from Theater 150 company members Leslie Paxton (Happy
Days and Stop Kiss at
